Wendy Bramall

Our most recent speaker in July was the illustrator, Wendy Bramall.
Wendy, who now lives in Winchester, was born in Guernsey where she was lucky enough as a young girl to spend hours combing the beaches searching for interesting stones and bits of driftwood.
This early experience led to her love of nature, which she has pursued through her working life.
After studying at Illustration at Harrow School of Art she worked at the Natural History Museum  before becoming a freelance illustrator.
Her illustrations are very detailed watercolours and her subjects include horses , bones , birds , driftwood etcetera.
In her talk she showed examples of work which she has carried out which included sets of stamps for the Post Office, book and magazine illustrations.
One of the major emphases of her talk was to reinforce the importance of the sketchbook to the artist and the necessity of drawing from life.


Our next speaker, in September will be Holly Hickmore, the sculptor. Holly’s work is animal based, much of it in bronze . Horses form much of her current oeuvre, and this stems from a classical education at The Hungarian School of  Art where she received a good grounding in anatomy.


Recently, Frances Mason , painter and printmaker, hosted a three day en plein air printmaking workshop at her home in the New Forest. This was led by the Cornish printmaker, Oliver West.


Our current exhibition, “2d3d Summer Exhibition” is running in conjunction with Hampshire Open Studios at The Link Gallery at the University of Winchester.
In addition, several members have opened their studios individually as part of the Open Studios; these include Karen Eames and Frances Mason.
Other members are involved in group shows; these include Clarissa Russell, Judith Eaton, Jill Jennings, Judith Fairhall and Angela Perrett.
Jill Bray has had much of her work taken on by the Kevis House Gallery in Petworth.
Don Richards and Sue Halloway have had work accepted for the Mottisfont Open exhibition which will run from 15th September.
Our next exhibition, “Praxis”, will be at the Willis Museum Exhibition Gallery in Basingstoke which will run from November 3rd until  December 8th 2018
