June Walsh
I retired from part time employment in 1991 to become a painter.
As a painter I am inspired by rocks and crystals and first became aware of them when in Guernsey in winter strong sunlight, very low to the horizon, which lit the scene. The colour and the cracks became beautiful and created fascinating scenes. I was taught by my father to admire the wonders of nature and the downland and try to absorb the remarkable colour harmony which it presents for our enjoyment. When working on the images I am reminded of my studies of symbolism and it’s origins in both mankind and metamorphosis. More recently I have studied much smaller sections of rock and crystals. From these I look for tiny areas which provide interesting paintings when scaled up. Knowledge is to be obtained by contemplation of the material to a painting which helps in the formation of ideas. The size of my paintings is 28” x 26” or 24” and 20”x 20”whichever is most suitable to the subject. I paint in oils onto hand stretched canvas.
I have exhibited with Hampshire Artists Open Studios and with 2D3D South Contemporary Art since 1992 and enjoyed the association immensely.
